Synopsis
Professor Itzhack Polacheck obtained his Ph.D. in Microbiology in 1977 from The Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School, Jerusalem, and completed his post-doctorate in 1981 from the NIAID, NIH, Bethesda, MD, USA. He is a world-renowned Medical Microbiologist and Mycologist with expertise in a variety of areas including, but not limited to, biochemistry, diagnosis, molecular biology, drug development, animal model, drug delivery, etc. He was the founder and scientific advisor for a start-up company, ConjuGate Ltd. He has many publications (>100) in peer reviewed literature (including Cell and PNAS) and has contributed chapters in books. Additionally, he holds grants and patents. He organized and chaired numerous national and international meetings and conferences. In 2011, he became Professor Emeritus and Head of Medical Mycology Research Laboratory in the Department of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Disease at Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Centre. Professor Polacheck retired from his position in May 2012 but he remains fully active as a senior research scientist. On 2015 he received the respected Serov prize from the Israel Society for Microbiology for excellence in clinical microbiology for his studies on fungal infections.
