Since its inception, Hadassah's pacesetting progress has set the standard for medicine in Israel; the standard of excellence. An impressive list of achievements is testimony to Hadassah's vision and mission. Today, Hadassah Medical Organization continues to move forward, making the world a better place through healing, teaching, and research.
Hadassah Hospitals in Israel
Since the establishment of Hadassah's first hospital on Jerusalem's Neviim Street (Street of the Prophets) - a gift of the Rothschild family in 1918 - the Hadassah University Medical Center has expanded to include two University hospitals in Jerusalem - located on Mt. Scopus and in Ein Kerem. The flagship of Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, the two hospitals have 1,000 beds, 31 operating theaters, nine specially oriented intensive care units and five schools of allied medical professions, owned and operated in collaboration with the Hebrew University.
Hadassah's extensive network of satellite services provides community health care programs, specialized outpatient clinics and services in several city neighborhoods and nearby towns, as well as consultation clinics in the center of Jerusalem and in Tel Aviv.
Davidson Tower
The 19-story Sarah Wetsman Davidson Tower is a tangible example of Hadassah's commitment to the people it serves. This new in-patient facility is designed to address today's needs, tomorrow's breakthroughs and evolution in patient care for years to come.
The combined skills of more than 5,000 health care professionals - 800 physicians 2,200 nurses, 500 paramedical and 1,500 support staff - bring health and hope to the people of region and beyond.
Treatment in Israel
Hadassah practices translational medicine, combining state-of-the-art medical and surgical care with top-level interdisciplinary research and development activity. Hadassah's physicians take their patients' problems into the laboratories, grapple with their predicaments, consider possible solutions and test hypotheses through the full range of clinical trials to enhance their diagnosis and treatment.
For over a century, Hadassah has extended its hand to all, regardless of race, religion, or gender. People from all the countries in the region turn to Hadassah for help. They are treated alongside patients from the Mediterranean Basin, Europe, South America and the United States.
Healing
More than a million people are treated annually in over 120 outpatient clinics and more than 70 departments and specialized units. A complete range of diagnostic laboratories as well as the innovative imaging machines and other state-of-the-art equipment back these clinical arms.
Hadassah provides practically every possible medical service available in the most advanced medical centers in the world. Some departments are the only facilities of their kind in the Jerusalem area; and others are unique in Israel, which has led the government to designate Hadassah as a National Center in a number of medical specialties.
Research
Hadassah's physicians and scientists are actively engaged in a wide variety of extensive basic and clinical research projects, looking for new ways to treat current conditions. More than half of all hospital research conducted in Israel is conducted at Hadassah. Each department incorporates research units and the hospital houses many interdisciplinary research centers. Both hospitals have several Centers of Excellence: brain trusts of scientists and physicians, integrating clinical care with the latest laboratory lessons.
Hadasit, Hadassah's Technology Transfer Company, promotes and commercializes the intellectual property and R&D capabilities continuously generated by Hadassah physicians and scientists. Hadasit's successful enterprising of Hadassah's biomedical technology - including novel therapeutics, diagnostics and devices - has gained Hadassah global recognition.
Teaching
A partner with the Hebrew University in five academic institutions dedicated to the medical sciences, Hadassah University Medical Center is known throughout the world for training of outstanding physicians, nurses and healthcare professionals. The collaboration with Hebrew University has produced many distinguished scientists who have enriched the world with their discoveries.
Outreach
Consistent with its philosophy of equal treatment and employment opportunities, Hadassah Medical Organization has always embodied the concept that medicine serves as a bridge to peace. For many years Hadassah has been providing medical services to Palestinians who live in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. In addition, Hadassah is involved in numerous cooperative programs with Palestinian physicians, hospitals and medical personnel.
Since 1960, Hadassah has trained over 700 students from more than 90 countries for a Master of Public Health; helped more than one million Africans retain their eyesight, while training local doctors to continue fighting eye disease; brought critical care expertise to earthquake-torn Armenia, Turkey and Greece and to tsunami victims in Sri Lanka; and assisted in the recovery effort at the bombed U.S. Embassies in Nairobi.
Hadassah symbolizes initiative and innovation, education and excellence, caring and commitment. It is a vibrant example of volunteers and professionals working together across countries and continents, helping and healing, dedicated to changing people's lives.
Hadassah University Medical Center is always happy to welcome visitors to our Jerusalem campuses, escort them through our facilities and share the accomplishments we have achieved in partnership with Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America.
