The Pediatric Gastroenterology Unit operates on both campuses providing 24-hour gastroenterology consultations to all inpatient services including the neonatal unit, Hematology and Oncology, Pediatric Surgery, in-patient pediatric wards and emergency rooms. There are general pediatric gastroenterology clinics on both campuses as well and a specialized liver clinic in Ein Kerem.
Other special research interests are pancreatic disease, celiac disease and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. In total there are 2,000 clinic visits a year. Over 500 routine upper endoscopies, colonoscopies and gastrostomy insertions are performed each year, most at Mount Scopus. The unit's laboratories perform stool (elastase-1) blood (celiac) and other specialized tests (pH probe) and the Electrophysiology Laboratory, the only one of its kind in Israel, functions as the National Referral Center for the performance of Nasal Potential Difference and Intestinal Current Measurements. One of the unit's residents is from Hebron and is funded by the Peres Center for Peace.
