The Department of General Surgery at Hadassah Mount Scopus Medical Center provides diagnostic services as well as perioperative management utilizing advanced and innovative surgical techniques. A substantial number of the procedures are performed via minimal invasive surgery (laparoscopy) which enables rapid recovery and minute scars.
The department’s staff includes senior and experienced surgeons who specialize in various surgical subspecialties and offer different procedures performed at best of hands.
Within the department there is a leading and outstanding bariatric service that includes all types of bariatric surgeries and tailors the surgical approach to the individual patient.
The department also performs a variety of endocrine surgeries including thyroidectomy, parathyroidectomy, adrenalectomy, and resection of neuroendocrine tumors.
Another subspecialty within the department is colorectal surgery – colon and rectum resection as well as proctology such as hemorrhoidectomy, anal fissure, fistula, and rectal prolapse.
The hepato-biliary service includes all types of advanced procedures for the liver, pancreas, and bile ducts malignancies or benign conditions that require surgery.
Breast surgery is performed for various indications and includes simple lumpectomy, breast conserving surgery, and mastectomy with or without immediate reconstruction.
Complex abdominal wall reconstruction is performed for patients with huge incisional hernias.
Melanoma is also treated at the Department of Surgery.
Other procedures that are routinely performed include surgery for all gastrointestinal tract malignancies, cholecystectomy, surgery for peptic ulcer disease, diaphragmatic hernia repair, anti-reflux procedures, appendectomy, and laparoscopic or open hernia repair.
The Department of surgery at Mount Scopus leads clinical and basic science research in various areas of surgery and routinely publishes the results in leading journals.
Student and resident education is an inherent and important part of the department and the graduates are appointed in leading positions across the country.
