Reuben
“Reuben, you are my firstborn, my light, the first sign of my strength, excelling in honor, excelling in power. Turbulent as the waters, you will no longer excel.”
– Genesis 49
Jacob’s oldest son. The bird in the center has eagle claws representing the strength of the firstborn. “You are as unstable as the waters” Jacob said to Reuben hence the blue of the sea and sky. The fish we see in this window are repeated several times in other windows. They are a symbol of wealth and fertility. On the lower right side, look for the mandrake flower that Reuben brought to his beloved mother Leah.
