Ulcerative Colitis is a condition were a patient's bowels are full of ulcers and open sores. It is often confused with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Symptoms include constant bloody diarrhea. Patients are usually treated with medications and steroids in order to control or reduce the inflammation.
Crohn's Disease usually manifests itself in people who are genetically susceptible. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and weight loss. The medication treatment is based on various antibiotics and a wide range of drugs from the monoclonal antibodies family. Crohn's Disease is also treated by liquid feeds which rest the bowel. In some cases, surgery may be required in order to remove narrowed or damaged parts of the intestine.
