About the The Pediatric Rheumatology and Immunology service

Doctors:
Prof. Yackov Berkun
Dr. Eli Eisenstein

The Pediatric Rheumatology and Immunology service provides care to children with inflammatory and immune-mediated conditions and their families. We treat children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis, lupus, dermatomyositis, Behcet disease, rheumatic fever, vasculitis, scleroderma and other connective tissue diseases, as well as chronic pain syndromes. We specialize in treatment of children with recurrent fever syndromes including familial Mediterranean fever (FMF), and systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis. We also diagnose and treat children with recurrent infections, as well as complex autoimmune and allergic conditions.

Our medical staff includes two senior physicians with broad experience in the diagnosis and management of rheumatologic and immunologic diseases of childhood. As part of the Hadassah medical system, we work together with physicians from other pediatric sub-specialties to achieve a timely and accurate diagnosis. In addition, we employ advanced immunologic and genetic techniques, including next generation sequencing, to diagnose rare and difficult cases.

Initial patient evaluations are performed by one of our physicians in our outpatient clinics. Multi-disciplinary treatment is provided in the Hadassah Center for Pediatric Chronic Diseases, which has a staff that includes a psychologist, social workers, and physical and occupational therapists. Biologic medications including cytokine antagonists and monoclonal antibody treatments are given under the supervision of our experienced nursing staff when appropriate.

We invite families of children with rheumatic and immunologic conditions to experience the Hadassah difference!
