General Information

The Department of Neurology serves the population of greater Jerusalem and every person referred to it for treatment.

The department treats all kinds of neurological disturbances, and has at its disposal doctors with different areas of expertise and extensive experience and the best equipment to accompany diagnosis and treatment.

The hospitalization department includes 27 beds of which some are reserved for stroke patients. The Department has an adjacent clinic and service and diagnostic laboratories which saves the patient precious time in the performance of tests connected with the diagnosis of his illness.

Two important medical centers are active within the framework of the Department: the Center for the Treatment of Multiple Sclerosis Patients which functions in conjunction with the clinic at Ein Kerem under the direction of Prof. Oded Abramsky (former Head of the Department) and Dr. Dimitrius Karussis, and the Center for Neurogeriatrics administered by Dr. Zeev Meiner at Mt. Scopus.

The senior doctors of the Department of Neurology also work within in the framework of the private medical service and accept every referral to them within this framework. The service exists at the Ein Kerem and Mt. Scopus hospitals, and in Tel Aviv.

Every year the Department accepts young doctors for specialization and equips them to treat patients, to teach and to carry out research.

The Department also has a Laboratory for Experimental Neurology which is very active in diverse research in the areas of neurology. The Laboratory includes senior investigators and skilled laboratory technicians which enable both the students and the doctors to engage in research in addition to their clinical obligations.

There are currently 27 beds in the department at full capacity all year round. The medical team does everything to enable the release of patients and hospitalization of new ones in their place, but not at the expense of the quality of care. About 6000 hospitalized patients pass through the department annually. The department also includes a unit which treats stroke cases who require urgent care until they are sent for rehabilitation.

The patients are supported by a superb nursing team with wide knowledge in the types of neurological problems. The nursing team is updated on medical advances in enrichment seminars presented by doctors of the department all year round.

The departmental doctors are leaders in the country in their areas, and are used as caregivers, advisors and teachers. The demand in our Department is first of all to serve the patient and also to expand specific and academic knowledge.

The doctors undergo training in the Department, in the clinic and in research. Three times weekly we present seminars which include scientific reports on advances in the world, a discussion of cases and a scientific seminar from the Laboratory of Experimental Neurology.

The contact between interns and senior doctors and with researchers in the neurology laboratory contributes greatly to enrichment in the academic area and the academic approach of the doctor to the patient.

We encourage all our doctors to utilize the Laboratory for Experimental Neurology with its diverse investigators and research topics.
