Comprehensive Eye Clinic

The General Ophthalmology clinic is responsible for the emergency room ophthalmology patients who come to Hadassah University Hospital. Patients with acute visual loss, eye infections, trauma, acute glaucoma and many other urgent eye problems will be seen in the general clinic. New cases are directed to the general clinic for an initial evaluation and referred to a sub-specialty clinic as needed.

Other responsibilities of the general clinic include screening for diabetic patients, general screening for glaucoma, retinal diseases such as age related macular degeneration, and screening for personal staff of the hospital.

Cataract Surgery

Patients with cataracts will undergo complete eye examination, receive a detailed explanation, and be scheduled for cataract surgery. Cataract surgery is done at the Daycare Unit of our department. All procedures are performed with local anesthesia, using advanced phacoemulsification techniques. Cataract surgery is performed through a small 3 mm opening, using no sutures. At the end of the procedure, a foldable intra-ocular lens is inserted into the eye through the small incision. We currently have the most advanced phacoemulsification equipment available in the world at our surgical facility. Our patients enjoy the benefits of our new state-of-the -art technology, which reflects in excellent post-operative results.

Dr. Halpert Michael, cataract and vitreo-retinal surgeon is in charge of the comprehensive ophthalmology clinic.
