Amlodipine Besylate is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that is used to treat hypertension and angina pectoris. It is can be used on its own or in addition to other hypertension drugs. Amlodipine Besylate lowers a person’s chances of being hospitalized and catheterized.
Do not use when
Your child has a known allergy to Amlodipine Besylate or one of the other ingredients in the medication
Consult your doctor when
Your child is suffering or has suffered in the past from liver or heart problems
Your child is taking other medication or has known allergies
How should I store the medication?
Store the medication in a dry, dark place. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use past the expiration date.
Administering the Medication
Administer the medication at the times instructed by your physician. In most cases, children between the ages of 6 and 17 will prescribes 2.5 – 5 mg per day.
What should I do if I forget to administer the medication on time?
Administer the medication immediately after you remember. Do not give the forgotten dose if there is less than 12 hours until the next one. Do not give two doses at once.
When can I stop giving the medication?
Complete the round as instructed by your physician. Do not end treatment without consulting with your doctor – even if your child is feeling better.
While using Amlodipine Besylate, your child may experience side effects which include headaches, swelling of the feet and ankles, drowsiness, stomach aches, flushed cheeks, irregular or rapid heartbeat, nausea and/or dizziness
Call your doctor when
There are cases that the child’s chest pains worsen the first time they take the medication. If this happens call your doctor immediately, or take your child to the ER.
