How does Cefuroxime work?
Cefuroxime is an antibiotic that fights bacterial infections.
The medication can come in a syrup form or as a powder. If it comes as a powder, ask your pharmacist to make the syrup for you.
How should I store the medication?
Store the syrup in a cool, dark place, away from light and humidity. Keep out of reach of children. If the medication is in syrup form, store the syrup in the refrigerator.
DO NOT USE the medication past its expiration date. Once the syrup is opened or made, it is good for 10 days.
Administering the Medication
Administer the medication at the times instructed by your physician. Make sure to shake the bottle when prior to giving it to your child. If your child has difficulty swallowing the medication, you can add it to their food or drink.
The medication should be taken after a meal, on a full stomach. This prevents stomach aches.
What should I do if I forgot to administer the dose on time?
If you forgot to administer the dose on time, give your child the medication as soon as you remember. If the next dose is in less than 3 hours, skip the next dose. Do not administer two doses at once.
When can I stop giving my child the medication?
Finish the round as instructed by your physician. Do not stop giving your child the medication even he is feeling better and no longer has a fever – this will enable the bacteria to become resistant towards the antibiotics. Throw away any leftover antibiotics once the round is done.
What side effects does the antibiotic cause?
While taking the antibiotic, your child may experience diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pains, nausea and/or stomach pains.
If your child vomited less than 20 minutes after taking a dose, re-administer the medication. If your child vomited after 20 minutes of taking the medication, there is no need to repeat the dose. In cases of continuous vomiting, please consult your doctor.
