Hadassah's AIDS Carrier Fertility Center, a joint project of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Hadassah's AIDS Center was inaugurated in early April 2010. The center operates by conducting sperm washes for AIDS carriers who would like to have children and whose spouses are not carriers of the virus.
The laboratory at Hadassah is the only one of its kind in Israel. About 5000 carriers have been treated worldwide and together with their healthy spouses have delivered 500 healthy babies.
The establishment of the AIDS Carrier Fertility Center and its operation are made possible through the cooperation and contribution of Prof. Halfon, of France and Prof. Shinazi of the United States.
