The laboratory developed numerous therapeutic platforms that were tested clinically or are now in clinical development including: Hyper-IL6 (invented by Stefan Rose-John), siRNA therapeutic scaffold for pancreatic cancer, and microRNAs for cancer therapy e.g. miR122* for cervical cancer.
Prof. Galun has over 250 refereed papers cited over 17888 Times and my H index is 67. He has published in the following leading journals; Nature, Nature Medicine, Nature Biotechnology, PNAS, Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Prof. Galun have been awarded app. 7 million Euros by national and international funding agencies including: EU-FP programs, National Institutes for Health (USA), Israel Science Foundation, German Science Foundation-Collaborative Research Program, Israel Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Foundation Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum, Heidelberg/Israel Ministry of Science and Technology program.
Prof. Galun was the Lead Partner and Scientific Management Member of the Israel Science Foundation Center for Research Excellence (I-CORE) "Gene Regulation in Complex Human Disease", 2010-16 (app. 18 million Euro).
Prof. Galun was the Founder and Director of the Goldyne Savad Gene Therapy Institute, Hadassah Medical Center. Prof. Galun embarked on philanthropic funding to recruit 10 PIs, allowing it to reach its current size of 75 investigators (25 million Euro). Prof. Galun hold now an ERC Advance grant, two ISF grants ending and one initiating, one NIH one SFB-DFG, and one MOST grant.
Prof. Galun work led to the establishment of several companies based on is technologies including XTLbio, Silenseed, Theravir/OVcure and others. Prof. Galun have been transferred to Protalix, Aptateck, Medgenix/Biogenics and other companies. Some of these activities are ongoing (Silenseed, Protalix & Aptateck), while some have changed their identity e.g. OVcure.
Prof. Eithan Galun is a coordinator and Mentor of the Hebrew University Hadassah Medical School MD-PhD program (>80 students). Mentor: The Maron MD-PhD program. He is a Teacher and course coordinator at the; Gene Therapy course for Master and PhD students, Medicine Enrichment course MD-PhD students, Problem Based Learning, medical student’s 2nd year, Problem Based Learning, medical student’s 3rd year, Introduction to Internal Medicine, medical student’s 3rd year, Clerkship in hepatology, medical students 4-6th year, Bachelor students’ seminar.
