Dr. Rafael Nesher is a graduate of Ohio State University,
Columbus, Ohio, where he specialized in Physiological Chemistry
and Cardiology. Subsequent to training in Metabolism and Endocrinology
at Washington University School of Medicine, in the area of
diabetes and metabolism, Dr. Nesher accepted an appointed
at the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Hadassah
Medical Center where he holds the appointment of Senior Lecturer
at the Hebrew University - Faculty of Medicine. At the Hadassah
Hospital, Dr. Nesher serves as the Director of the Endocrine
Service Laboratory, as well as the Scientific Coordinator
of the Hadassah Diabetes Center (HDC) Dr Nesher has been designated
the Director of the newly established HDC - Islet Transplant
Program. Dr. Nesher's primary research involves islet cell
physiology with emphasis on beta-cell signal transduction
and on coupling defects related to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Dr. Nesher has a strong interest in clinical aspects of diabetes
mellitus as well as in animal models of human diabetes. He
is a member of numerous national and international professional
organizations and has been awarded the Sigma Xi award, the
Wolfson and the M. Stiech prizes for his research.
