Eran Leitersdorf, M.D.

Dr. Eran Leitersdorf is a graduate of the Hadassah-Hebrew
University Medical School. He trained in Internal Medicine
and Lipid Metabolism at Hadassah under Prof. Yechezkiel Stein.
During the years 1986-8 he had a postdoctoral fellowship training
in Molecular Genetics at the laboratory of Drs. M.S. Brown
and J.L. Goldstein in Dallas, Texas. In 1992 he was a visiting
professor at the laboratory of Drs. A. Motulsky and S. Deeb
at the George Washington University in Seattle and in 1995
at the laboratory of Dr. J.-C. Fruchart at the Pasteur Institute
in Lille, France. He is a Professor of Medicine and the Dorothy
and Maurice Bucksbaum Chair in Molecular Genetics. He is the
Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine B and the
Center for Research, Prevention and Treatment of Atherosclerosis
at Hadassah. He is a recipient of five Hebrew University -
Faculty of Medicine Prizes, the Fogarty (NIH) and the IAS
Awards. His main research interests are in Lipid Metabolism,
Atherosclerosis, Molecular Genetics and Drugs Affecting Lipid
Metabolism. His laboratory work is supported by the US-Israel
Binational Science Foundation, the Israel Academy of Sciences,
the German Israeli Foundation for Scientific Research and
Development and the Ministry of Health as well as by multinational
drug companies and private foundations. He published 115 original
papers, reviews, editorials and commentaries. He is the Chairman
of the Israeli Atherosclerosis Society and a member of the
European and the International Atherosclerosis Societies.
He is an Associate Editor of the journal "Atherosclerosis"
and "Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology"
and a reviewer for many other scientific journals and national
organizations.
