The Medical Day Care – located on the fourth floor in Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital, was established 10 years ago. It operates 5 days a week ( from 8 a.m.-16.00 p.m.) and treats approximately 25 ambulatory patients daily (about 5000 yearly). A multidisciplinary staff, physicians, nurses, dieticians, and a social worker, on call, provide the treatment. Patients are referred to the unit on discharge from the hospital, from clinics in the hospital and in the community. They receive treatment for a wide range of medical problems. Procedures performed in the Day Care Unit include Cardioversion, Pleural Tap, Bone Marrow Aspiration and Biopsy, Parenthesis, Blood Transfusions, Iloprost IV Therapy, Immune Globulin Therapy, Remicad etc.

Most patients arrive fasting, undergo a medical examination by one of the physicians, blood examinations are taken, and nurses supply the necessary treatments.

Future Projects -

  1. Due to the increase in the number of patients over the past year, and the increased severity and complications of illnesses, there is a demand for an additional 6 beds in the Day Care Unit and a concomitant expansion of the existing area. We have requested from the Ministry of Health a program based on their standards for an additional 15 beds which we have presented to Hadassah’s central administration.
The central administration has also approved the expansion of the student clinic,  which will hopefully begin in the near future.

  2. Computerized admission – and discharge letters (in progress).
  3. We wish to install video-teaching appliances for patient teaching techniques if space will be available.
