Abstract
Acute pulmonary edema is a critical hemodynamic state related to myocardial function, afterload, myocardial ischemia and necrosis. Since these factors should also predict outcome, our hypothesis is that the information we receive on admission, i.e., age, risk factors, myocardial enzyme release (especially troponin) and echocardiographic left ventricular function, should provide important prognostic parameters that may predict future events, e.g. recurrent pulmonary edema, MI and death. These factors should then help us to decide which patients are in need of angiography and revascularization.
