Abstract
This will be a prospective, randomized, multi-center, international trial comparing two reperfusion strategies in 530 elderly (age > 70 years) patients with AMI: primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) vs intravenous thrombolytic therapy (tPA, rPA or TNK). A "registry" of elderly (age > 70 years) AMI patients who are not randomized will also be evaluated. Clinical endpoints will be collected in the hospital at 1 month, 6 months and 1 year post randomization.
The primary endpoint iof the trial will be combined mortality or disabling stroke by 30 days.
Secondary endpoints include:
1 month, 6 months and 1 year combined mortality or disabling stroke or recurrent MI
Recurrent ischemia at 1 month, 6 months and 1 year
1 month, 6 months and 1 year CABG
Ischemic driven non-protocol catherterization
Ischemic driven target vessel revascularization
Bleeding major/minor
Ejection fraction at 5-10 days
Echo indices of diastolic function
Length of hospitalization
