Statement made by Prof. Shlomo Mor-Yosef General Director of Hadassah Medical Center

05/01/2006

Earlier this morning at 6:45, Prof. Shlomo Mor-Yosef went out to the media and gave the following statement:

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon arrived last night at Hadassah partially conscious, with high blood pressure. Initial diagnosis showed he had a significant stroke. An imaging test showed that the reason for the brain event was probably a massive hemorrhage inside the brain. He was taken immediately to the operating room. During the operation the bleeding stopped. Sharon underwent an evaluation in the imaging unit, which showed some additional areas in his brain that required treatment.

Brain surgeries are long and this one may continue for several hours.

Prime Minister Sharon remains in severe condition.
