Prof. Brian Glenville, MS FRCS, most recently Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at London’s St. Mary's Hospital has been appointed Head of Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Hadassah University Hospital in Ein-Kerem, Jerusalem.
A renowned clinician, educator and researcher, Prof. Glenville is a Master’s Degree graduate of University College in London, and a medical degree from University College Hospital in London. He is also a Fellow of the esteemed Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Prof. Glenville trained extensively in cardiothoracic surgery, principally in Great Britain but also in the United States and has published more than 50 articles in prestigious medical journals as well as an impressive number of abstracts.
Prof. Glenville is the senior author of the new Handbook in Cardiothoracic Surgery soon to be published by the Oxford University Press. This publication has been heralded as a major contribution to surgical training. Regularly invited to speak, moderate and operate in national and international forums, Prof. Glenville is the recipient of numerous honors, has held and still holds impressive positions advising amongst others, governmental bodies.
Prof. Glenville brings to his new position at Hadassah more than two decades of important research in cardiothoracic surgery. His experience in standards and methods of training young cardiac surgeons will serve Hadassah well in attracting the next generation to train locally. He performed the first successful bridge to transplant artificial heart placement in the UK (7th in the world) in 1986 and will be bringing to Hadassah the expertise to head a vital new heart failure program. He also helped to pioneer beating heart surgery for coronary artery bypass grafts in the UK and has a patient experience of over 1500, rivaling anything found worldwide.
Prof. Glenville was appointed to his current position at Hadassah after a long and comprehensive selection process, which included 9 distinguished physicians from Israel and abroad.
A native of Great Britain, Prof. Glenville moved to Israel in 2004. He is married and the father of three children.
