INTRODUCTION
The Department of Emergency Medicine focuses its research effort on clinical studies which try to evaluate the best strategy in the management of common medical problems seen in the Department of Emergency Medicine, with particular emphasis on diagnosis and treatment (i.e., best strategies to differentiate between an ankle sprain from a fracture). We have also been involved in quality projects such as pain management in the Emergency Department, interpretation of chest X-rays by emergency physicians, and ways to improve communication between patients and medical staff.
