INTRODUCTION
The Division of Laboratories is committed to medical laboratory service, research and education, and strives to be a national leader in its field. It occupies a special position as both a medical center laboratory and a reference laboratory, providing extensive laboratory services to the two Hadassah hospitals in the disciplines of Clinical Biochemistry (including chemistry, immunochemistry, blood gases, enzymology, special proteins, etc.), Hematology (including Coagulation), Endocrinology (including fertility), Oncology (tumor markers), Toxicology, and Clinical Pharmacology.
Over 3 Million laboratory tests are performed annually, through a broad range of repertoire exceeding 200 different test procedures and analytes.
Consultation by laboratory professionals is provided on analyte and methodology selection, result interpretation and the relationship of laboratory parameters to specific patient groups and disease states. The laboratory also provides professional support in specimen collection and preparation procedures, and serves clinical studies to evaluate the safety and efficacy of experimental drugs.
The Division of Laboratories is accredited through the Israel Laboratory Accreditation Authority in compliance with ISO 15189 International Standard for Clinical Laboratories.
At the Department of Clinical Biochemistry within the Division of Laboratories, the major areas of research involve clinical laboratory management, specific issues in clinical laboratory diagnostics, and plasminogen activation.
The senior academic staff is involved in various teaching and educational activities. At the Hebrew University-Hadassah Faculty of Medicine, Professors Mayer and Higazi teach courses on Metabolism and Human Nutrition, Physiological Biochemistry, and various Post Graduate courses. In addition, individual guidance is provided for M.Sc. and Ph.D. students.
