 פרופ' בלומנטל מנהל את שרות הגלאוקומה בבית-החולים הדסה, המטפל בחולי גלאוקומה וקטרקט מכל רחבי הארץ.  במרפאתנו נבדקים ומטופלים החולים, ובמידת הצורך מוזמנים לטיפולי לייזר ולניתוחי עיניים.  ברשותנו קיים הציוד המודרני ביותר והגישות הטיפוליות החדשניות ביותר לאבחון וטיפול במחלת הגלאוקומה. 

 

פרופ' איתן בלומנטל סיים את לימודיו בבית-הספר לרפואה של האוניברסיטה העברית בירושלים והמשיך להתמחות במחלקת-עיניים של בית-החולים האוניברסיטאי הדסה עין-כרם.  עם סיום התמחותו וקבלת תואר מומחה לרפואת עיניים, בחר דר' בלומנטל להתמחות, במשך שנתיים, במחלת הגלאוקומה, באוניברסיטת קליפורניה בסן-דייגו, הנחשבת כאחד המרכזים המובילים בעולם בתחום זה, בהדרכתו של דר' רוברט ויינרב.  בתקופה זו נחשף למיטב הגישות הטיפוליות והניתוחיות לגלאוקומה, טיפל בחולים קשים שהופנו למרכז מכל רחבי ארה"ב, ופרסם מאמרים רבים בתחום הגלאוקומה.

 

עם סיום ההתמחות בגלאוקומה חזר פרופ'  בלומנטל למחלקת העיניים בבית החולים הדסה כרופא בכיר, וזמן קצר אחר-כך התמנה למנהל שרות הגלאוקומה. תחת הנהלתו עבר שרות הגלאוקומה בהדסה שינוי ניכר, הן בתחום הטיפול בחולים והן בתחום המחקר, שהתבטא בהכנסת טכנולוגיות חדישות, הרחבת מגוון הטיפולים, שימוש בשיטות ניתוחיות חדשות והגדלת מערך המחקר.

 

חולים עם גלאוקומה קשה ומורכבת מופנים לטיפולו מכל רחבי הארץ.
