דר' איתי חוברס הינו מרצה בכיר לרפואת עיניים ורופא בכיר במחלקת העיניים במרכז הרפואי הדסה עין-כרם.
דר' חוברס סיים את לימודי הרפואה בבית הספר לרפואה של האוניברסיטה העברית בשנת 1994. לאחר מכן ביצע דר' חוברס סטאז' והתמחות בטיפול במחלות עיניים בין השנים 1995-2000 בביה"ח הדסה. בין השנים 2000-2003 השתלם דר' חוברס בטיפול במחלות רשתית ובמחקר של מחלות רשתית בבית החולים Johns Hopkins, שבבלטימור, ארה"ב.
דר' חוברס מטפל במגוון מחלות רשתית בינם ניוון מקולרי גילי (Age Related Macular Degeneration- AMD), פגיעה סוכרתית ברשתית (Diabetic Retinopathy), מחלות כלי דם של הרשתית, ניוון הרשתית (Retinitis Pigmentosa), הפרדות רשתית, ומחלות ויטראורטינליות נוספות. טכניקות הטיפול בהם משתמש דר' חוברס כוללות טיפולי לייזר, טיפול פוטודינאמי (PDT), ניתוחי רשתית שונים, וניתוחי קטרקט. כל הטיפולים מבוצעים במחלקת העיניים של ביה"ח הדסה עין כרם. במחלקה נמצא המכשור החדיש ביותר הדרוש לאבחון וטיפול במחלות רשתית.
לדר' חוברס מעבדת מחקר פעילה בה משתמשים בשיטות עדכניות של ביולוגיה מולקולארית על מנת לזהות את התהליכים הגורמים לניוון מקולרי גילי (AMD) ולמלאנומה של הענבייה (uveal melanoma). מטרת המחקר לזהות גנים המעורבים במחלות אלו, דבר העשוי לאפשר פיתוח טיפולים חדשים ויעילים יותר בהן.

מחקר
· המעבדה לביולוגיה מולקולארית של העין- המחקר במעבדה ממוקד באיתור גנים המעורבים בגרימת ניוון מקולרי גילי (AMD), ומלאנומה של הענבייה. מטרת המחקר לזהות גנים אלו, להוכיח את מעורבותם ב AMD או במלאנומה של הענבייה, ולפתח טיפולים חדשים המבוססים על השפעה על פעילות גנים אלו.
· מחקר קליני- מספר מחקרים קליניים מתבצעים במרפאתו של דר' חוברס. מטרת המחקר לשפר את ההבנה של הגורמים לAMD ושל אופן ההתקדמות של המחלה, וכן לפתח בדיקות חדשות שיאפשרו זיהוי מוקדם של AMD.
