Small Changes on Daily Routine can Decrease Tiredness from Your Eyes and Keep them Healthy:
Watching Television:
What does it do to the eyes, and what can be done in order to relieve them?
Eye experts say in general, that watching television does not harm the eyes or the eyesight if the room is properly lit and if a few rules are kept. Watching television takes less effort from the eyes in comparison to sawing or reading. Nevertheless, extended watching can make the eyes tired.
The optimal lighting for watching television is a normally lighted room, to suit various activities. A too bright light decreases the contrast on the screen and blurs the image. Make sure that the lighting does not create a reflection on the T.V screen. Do not use colored lighting, and place the television in neutral light surroundings.
Is watching T.V in the dark good for the eyes? No. The contrast between the screen and the surroundings is not comfortable for the eyes. Soft lighting keeps unwanted contrast minimal.
Adjust the television and the screen's contrast to the lighting in the room.
Children often sit close to the T.V. This is not advisable, but not harmful basically. It's best to watch television from at least 5 times of the screen's width. At that distance all the details on the screen look sharp, and stripes or defects in the image are less noticed. If your child insists on watching T.V from a short distance, you should take him for an eye check, it might be myopia (shortsightedness).
When the eyes are tearing or feeling uncomfortable while watching, television adjusted glasses might be a relief – especially if you're over 50. Discomfort can be cause due to eye dryness. For that you should see an expert as well.
In conclusion
· Place your T.V. set so there won't be any reflections on the screen from lamps, windows and other sources of light.
· Place the screen at your eye level. Avoid watching it up or down.
· Adjust the brightness and the contrast on your screen according to your needs and personal comfort.
· Avoid long and continuance T.V watching. Look away to the room or the window from time to time.
