Melon and watermelon belong to the cucumber family. These favorite summer fruits both contain a high percentage of water and anti-oxidative ingredients. Compared to other fruits, melon and watermelon contain fewer calories per 100 grams. The difference is the amount you eat. We tend to eat about 100 to 200 grams of apple, pear, orange and similar fruits, but when it comes to melon and watermelon – we can easily eat 500 grams or more.
In 100 grams of watermelon there are: 31 calories, 0.5 grams of protein (0.017 oz), 0.4 grams of fat (0.014 oz), 6.8 grams of carbohydrates (0.239 oz), 0.5 grams of fibers (0.017 oz), 10 milligrams of vitamin C (0.0003 oz) and 300 milligrams of potassium (0.0105 oz).
In 100 grams of melon there are: 35 calories, 0.9 grams of protein (0.031 oz), 0.3 grams of fat (0.0105 oz), 8 grams of carbohydrates (0.282 oz), 0.5 grams of fibers (0.017 oz), 42 milligrams of vitamin C (0.0014 oz) and 300 milligrams of potassium (0.0105 oz).
Notice the amount of sugar in fruits. People who suffer from diabetes should not eat more than one portion of fruit at a time and stick to the allowed daily amount.
We can't ignore the caloric content of melon and watermelon: one portion of melon or watermelon equals one cup of fruit. In other words, take a small slice.
