Born in Jerusalem 1954.

 

Medical studies in the Hadassah Hebrew University Medical School

(1975-1981), rotating internship (1982) and pediatric residency (1983-1988) in the Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital.

 

Pediatric critical care fellowship at Children's National Medical Center, Washington DC (1989-1992). During that period he was an investigator at the 'Canine Human Septic Shock Lab' of the Clinical Center, NIH, Bethesda, MD.

 

Upon returning from the USA he joined the Ein Kerem unit. In 2002 he replaced Prof Goitein as director of pediatric critical care in the newly created division of pediatrics.

Dr Yatsiv is one of the co-founders of the Israeli Society of Pediatric Critical Care. He was active in establishing critical care as an independent sub-specialty within pediatrics and in setting up the fellowship curriculum.

 

Dr Yatsiv served as the society's second chairman (1999 - 2002). He is a member of the Israeli Society for Clinical Pediatrics, The European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), The European Society for Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care (ESPNIC), The Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) and the Israeli Society for Neuroscience (ISFN).

 

Research areas

 

1. The role and effects of different endogenous cytokines on the pathophysiology of secondary head trauma is an experimental animal model. That work is done at the neurotrauma lab of the Department of Pharmacology headed by Prof Esther Shohami.

 

2. The influence of genetic polymorphism on the response to polytrauma and neurotrauma in children.
