Dr. Thea Pugatsch was born and educated in Zürich, Switzerland. In 1979 she received her PhD in Natural Sciences from the ETH-Z, the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule in Zürich. For her postdoctoral studies she first joined the group of Dr. J.T. Parsons at the Dept. Virology at UVA in Charlottesville, VA and after 1 year moved to Dr. Dennis Stacey’s laboratory at the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology in Nutley, NJ.
In 1982 she immigrated to Israel and initially worked as a molecular biologist and virologist in the biotech industry. In 1988 she returned to Academics and worked as a senior scientist and lecturer in the Dept. Virology of the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical School.
In 1990 Dr. Pugatsch joined the Hadassah Medical Center to begin with as senior scientist in the research laboratory of the Dept. Bone Marrow Transplantation; in 2001 she was appointed Research Coordinator of the Cardiovascular Research Center and since 2006 she is the Coordinator for Research and Development at the Department of Pediatrics, Hadassah Medical Center, Mount Scopus.
Dr. Pugatsch is the recipient of many prestigious awards including fellowships from the Schweizerischer National funds and Hoffman-La Roche, grants from the Israeli Cancer Association, Israeli Ministry of Health, Israeli Ministry of Science & Arts, Israeli General Trustee, Hadassah Women’s Health Grant, BSF and NIH.
She was appointed board member of the international association of women biologists (IAWB) for the years 1984-1990.
Currently she serves as delegate of the Hadassah Medical Center to the animal ethics committee of the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical School
Dr. Pugatsch is the holder of a number of patents.
