Upon completion of his residency he proceeded to a fellowship program in fetal medicine at King’s college hospital, London and awarded a diploma in Fetal Medicine. He was trained by the leading international fetal medicine specialist – Prof. Kypros Nicolaides. During his training he acquired a high standard of competence in the clinical management of high-risk pregnancies, in ultrasound diagnosis and management of fetal anatomical and functional abnormalities and in intra uterine interventions as amniocentesis, chorion villus sampling and cordocentesis. He was also been trained to perform intra uterine endoscopic procedures as laser coagulation in severe twin-to-twin transfusion and endoscopic endotracheal placement of balloon in fetuses with diaphragmatic hernia.
Clinical and academic appointments:
He is currently a senior physician at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Ein-Kerem and his focus is in the Fetal Medicine field. As a faculty member, he is a lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Hebrew University Medical School and is an active clinical and basic researcher.
Special areas of interest:
1. Early screening test during the pregnancy
2. Ultrasound scans for detection fetal anomalies
3. Management of high risk pregnancies
4. Intrauterine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, Dr. Gielchinsky is leading this emerging area in the country
Research interests:
1. Basic science research – The rejuvenating effect of pregnancy on the mother
2. Clinical research – Search for new ultrasonographic markers for fetuses with chromosomal abnormalities and anomalies
