The Department of Medicine deals with a wide range of medical issues. In gastroenterology, advanced diagnosis and treatment methods are used on the digestive tract, bile ducts, and pancreas; polyps are removed and hemorrhoids are treated; removal of stones and insertion of drains into the bile ducts, laser treatments, etc. Other units deal in rheumatology (such as rheumatoid arthritis), familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF), clinical immunology (for example, lupus), allergic conditions, drug side effects, and drug interactions, liver diseases, such as cirrhosis and viral hepatitis, and questions regarding liver transplants and post-operative monitoring of liver transplant recipients.
The department is also involved in preventing cardiovascular disease; risk factors in arteriosclerosis and obesity; hyperlipidemia; diabetes and related complications; geriatrics; behavioral medicine; other diagnostic problems involving undiagnosed suffering by patients, such as unexplained fever or functional disturbances. The department is particularly interested in Behcet’s disease, Wilson’s disease, and temporal arthritis.
