The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery handles consulting and surgical treatment in the following areas:

§         Coronary artery bypass surgery for ischemic heart disease, with cardio pulmonary bypass ("on pump") or without (OPCAB).

§         Valve repair or replacement surgery.

§         Arrhythmia surgery, including treatment of atrial fibrillation.

§         Surgical treatment of congenital heart malformations

§         General thoracic surgery for disease of the lung and tumors of the mediastinum or chest wall, using open-chest or minimally invasive (thoracoscopic) techniques.

§         Surgical treatment for disease of the thoracic or thoraco-abdominal aorta.

§         Heart and lung transplantation.

§         Surgical ablation for atrial fibrillation (the Maze procedure), using advanced freezing technology or radiofrequency energy.
