Any visit to the emergency room involves a lot of questions and a certain degree of apprehension. We are aware of this and will make every effort to make your stay with us as easy as possible. The purpose of the information presented here is to give a general explanation of the admission process and treatment in the emergency room.
Upon arriving to the emergency room, first register at the reception desk and then proceed to the waiting room.
Whenever possible, one person accompanying you can stay with you in the emergency room, but he or she may be asked to wait outside if the room is too crowded.
In the waiting room, you will be seen by a nurse who will inquire about the reason of your coming and then carry out some tests.
In the nature of things, there is a lot of waiting involved in an emergency room visit. It can take two hours or more to receive test results.
Please be patient, test results are essential for deciding on the course of treatment.
Sometimes the doctor who is due to examine you may be busy with the treatment of another patient, or is in surgery. There may be no alternative but to wait for this particular doctor even though there are other doctors in the emergency room.
Not every doctor can treat every problem – doctors specialize in different fields of medicine.
Only after receiving all laboratory test results and X-rays, and following the doctor’s examination, decision about the necessary treatment will be made possible.
Payment
When arriving at the emergency room, you or the person accompanying you must present a payment voucher from the health fund or pay for the treatment received in the emergency room.
Discharge
When discharged from the emergency room, you must refer to the reception desk to complete the administrative and financial arrangements and also receive a discharge letter in which the doctor sets out the course of treatment and instructions for follow-up care.
Referral for hospitalization
Should you be admitted to one of the hospital departments, the doctor will use the appropriate form and refer you to the reception desk to complete the bureaucratic and financial arrangements.
Food and beverages
Please check with the nurse that you are allowed to eat. If the answer is affirmative, it is possible to receive a cup of tea and a sandwich in the emergency room.
If it is decided to admit you, you will be given a hot meal similar to what is served in the other hospital departments.
