Laboratory research is carried out in the Surgical Laboratory and at the Trauma Research Center, and includes topics such as:
§ ischemia and reperfusion of the bowel;
§ short gut syndrome;
§ the role of prostaglandins in necrotic bowel disease;
§ modulation of esophageal caustic injury in an animal model;
§ epidemiology and mechanics of childhood trauma;
§ the role of insulin and prostaglandins in experimental endotoxic shock and ultramicrostructural changes of isolated organs perfused with endotoxin;
§ the pulmonary and RES response to experimentally induced E. coli sepsis in biliary system obstructed animals; experimental hepatoma, experimental small bowel
§ transplant, experimental studies of bacterial adhesiveness.
The Department of Pediatric Surgery is actively involved in the following subjects:
1. New technologies in minimal invasive surgery including robotic surgery.
2. Ischemia and reperfusion of the gastrointestinal tract.
3. Experimental model of esophageal strictures’ prevention post caustic material ingestion.
4. Animal model of accelerated angiogenesis in various conditions.
5. Animal model for treatment modalities of congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
6. The surgical correction of major congenital anomalies.
7. Pediatric trauma – prevention and treatment.
