Tendon transfers for the treatment of chronic nerve injury, cerebral palsy
and other conditions
When there is dysfunction of a tendon or nerve, other tendons may be utilized in order to improve functional capacity.
We must consider the limb function as well as the patient’s function in general, what action is missing, which functions are strong, the degree of spasticity and joint ranges of motion.
The procedures may include transfer, release or elongation of a tendon or muscle as well as fusion of a joint.
Some congenital anomalies, such as hypoplastic thumb, may be treated by these means.
