Hand, wrist and elbow trauma
(including distal radius and scaphoid fractures)
Fractures of the upper limb are common following a motor vehicle accident or a fall.
After evaluation of the fracture configurations on radiographs or a CT scan, the type of treatment is chosen:
§ Is the radius shortened in comparison to the ulna?
§ Is the joint surface violated?
§ Is the fracture stable?
When the fracture is unstable, significantly displaced or the joint surface is not congruent, surgical treatment is considered.
