Program of Studies

The minimum duration of the program of studies is three and a half years, but the demands of the non-orthodontic clinical requirements (rotations) may extend this period to as much as additional six months. An individual program will be designed for each graduate student aimed at fulfilling the specialty requirements within this time period.

The first six months of the course will be devoted to learning the fundamentals of diagnosis, cephalometric and treatment techniques, using typodonts. Emphasis will be placed on the fulfillment of the requirements leading to the Master's Degree.

The studies in the succeeding years will concentrate on the orthodontic treatment of patients, combining the academic basis with current orthodontic treatment modalities. In this period the graduate student will be required to complete rotations in the various disciplines as required by the law and will be required to complete the requirements of the Master's Program.

In order to gain exposure to a larger number of patients, the graduate student will be assigned to carry out routine orthodontic examinations of patients referred to the Department for advice and treatment. Additionally, he/she may be attached to staff members in the teaching of Orthodontics to the undergraduate students in their clinical program.

At the end of the Graduate training course, the student will be examined on his/her level of knowledge in all the areas directly or indirectly involved in his/her training. Only those successful in this examination will be considered to have successfully completed the graduate training program.

Notwithstanding the above details, the Orthodontic Department reserves for itself the right to alter the framework of the course, its timing, duration and content, without prior notice and without requiring the consent of the graduate student.
