Specialty Program

The department of Orthodontics of the Faculty of Dental Medicine is recognized by the Scientific Committee of the Israel Dental Association as an "Approved Institution" for the purposes of specialization in Orthodontics, in accordance with the law relating to the practice of dentistry (approval of specialist title) that was enacted in 1977.

This law provides for a period of 3.5 years of training, in the following manner:

1. 2.5 years in an orthodontic department.
2. 3 months in a pedodontic department.
3. 3 months in another medical or dental department.
4. 6 months Basic Sciences (exemption will be granted to candidates with a Bachelor or Master Degree in Basic Sciences or those who have carried out clinical research in a subject which has gained prior approval).

In certain circumstances it is possible to substitute a period of study, which includes the granting of a further academic degree, for the six month period of basic sciences.

Students who are accepted into the Hebrew University - Hadassah Faculty of Dental Medicine for specialty training in Orthodontics are required to register as students in the course leading to the degree of Master of Dental Science - M.Sc. (see below), in addition to their clinical studies.
