Clinics

 

 

The Hematology Department provides comprehensive hematological consultations in any of our four specialty clinics.  Patients can be self-referred or referred by their family physician.  The clinics are staffed by experts in their fields of the highest caliber, some of whom are world renowned.

 

The 4 specialty clinics are:

 

General Hematology Clinic

This clinic takes place on Sunday and Monday beginning 9:00 am. The senior hematologists, Professor Ben-Yehuda and Professor Rund  and Dr. Orly Zelig, all receive patients in this clinic. Typical problems cared for in this clinic are: Anemias of all types including nutritional anemias, chronic leukemias (lymphoid and myeloid), acute leukemia in remission, myeloproliferative diseases, among many others.

 

Coagulation Clinic

This clinic takes place on Monday afternoon, beginning 2:00 pm. and Thursday beginning 9:00 am. Professor Varon is the coagulation specialist who receives patients in this clinic.  Among the many problems he is consulted for are: inborn or acquired bleeding tendencies, thrombocytopenia such as ITP, and disorders leading to hypercoagulability (excess blood clotting).

 

Thalassemia Clinic

This clinic takes place on Monday afternoon, beginning 2:00 pm. Dr. Ada Goldfarb receives patients who require consultation for specific problems related to the diagnosis and treatment of thalassemia.  In addition, referrals are made for the assessment of possible thalassemia carrier status of healthy individuals.  In the latter regard, Professor Deborah Rund, an expert on the phenotype-genotype relationships in a- and b-thalassemia, also welcomes consultations in her Sunday afternoon clinic.

 

Lymphoma Clinic

This clinic takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.  Professor Aaron Polliack, a renowned expert on these diseases is in charge, expertly assisted by Dr. Ora Paltiel, who has many years’ experience caring for lymphoma patients.  The full spectrum of lymphoproliferative disease including Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is cared for in this clinic. Some of the Lymphoma patients are also seen by the other senior hematologists in the general hematology clinic.
