The Hematology Department was founded as a separate independent Department by the late Professor G. Izak, shortly after the opening of the Sharett Building.
Until very recently, it was the only Department of its kind in Israel. Prof. Izak was the director from 1963 until his tragic death in 1980, after which Professor E. Rachmilewitz took over this role.
Professor E. Rachmilewitz directed the Department for 20 years until his retirement early in the year 2000.
In April 2000, Professor Dina Ben-Yehuda took on the role of Director of Department of Hematology.
In order to serve the patient population residing in the northern part of the city, a Hematology Unit has been established in the Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital.
