This service, the only one in Israel has been established to give immediate diagnosis and treatment to the elderly who feel jeopardized by an acute medical problem. Attention is paid to functional and cognitive impairment as well.

This service functions under the auspices of the general emergency department and has at its disposal all necessary diagnostic and laboratory facilities on a 24 hour basis.

It is staffed by a specialist or resident in geriatric medicine trained to look for and solve not only internal medical problems but their functional and cognitive consequences as well.

Therapeutic modalities available to these physicians include hospitalization in any of acute medical or surgical services of Hadassah, sub-acute wards in the geriatric hospital or the innovative Jerusalem Home Hospitalization program.
