Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost?

The cost may be only estimated. It depends on what will be actually done. We ask the patient to pre-pay 14,000 Israeli Sheqels or 4,026 U.S. Dollar (using values from July 25, 2008) for 6 doctor visits. After the first doctor visit, the patient is referred to complimentary tests: blood tests, imaging (MRI, CT scan), audiometry and electrophysiological tests, such as ENG, ABR. Most patients need only blood tests, which cost $500 to $700. On the basis of the comprehensive evaluation, the treatment program will be established. If you need medication, you have to cover that.

You may save some expenses if you bring lab-work with you. You may be asked to visit an ENT expert in your home town, and to undergo a deep examination. It may save costs and time. But you need to speak with the Physician In Charge, on telephone, about the details.

How long is the treatment?

You must consider 4-5 weeks of staying in Jerusalem. Israel is little cheaper then Western Europe.

What exactly will you do to me?

Our treatment is conventional. It is mainly medication based. The point is that a very exact medical evaluation must be made and then an individual treatment is tailored. Therefore we can't predict what your treatment will be. Tinnitus may be caused by various conditions. Your Tinnitus is unlike anybody else's tinnitus.

Sometimes we add auto-hypnosis training. In the past it was the major part of the treatment, but now it is only a "backup", just in case Tinnitus would come back after your improvement.

You may visit a website of one of ours patients, Mr Ray Ennis, to share his experience.

Do you perform corrective surgery?

We do not perform corrective surgery here as we do not believe it to be efficacious.

Do I have to come to Jerusalem?

YES.

Our method is only practiced in Israeli teaching hospitals. However there are many other clinics abroad that deal with Tinnitus. Unfortunately we cannot advice you in selecting one. We have found on the WEB, that in the USA you may call 1-800-871-4327 for a provider in your area

QUESTIONS SPECIFIC TO ISRAELIS:

Does KUPAT HOLIM cover it?

MACCABI : you come here and "maavir kartis" - that's usually all

Other KUPAT HOLIM: You can ask your Kupat Holim for HITHAYVUT. There is no clear policy in that. Sometimes they give, sometimes they refuse. In any case you can come to Hadassah and pay about 166 shekels (it was correct for 2000) for a visit, but whether you have an HITHAYVUT or not, in both cases there is a 2 years waiting list. If you are an oncological patient, or you underwent an organ transplantation, then the waiting may be greatly shortened. Of course, you can choose the program for tourists, to pay the full price and to be served with no waiting.
