Department of Dermatology and Venereology

The Department of Dermatology was initially one of Hadassah's busiest departments. A quarter of all patients seeking help at the hospital have skin complaints - fungal infections of the scalp, pyogenic infections, endemic syphilis and a variety of tropical and subtropical skin diseases, including leprosy.

Although the emphasis on skin diseases is greatly reduced now, pressure on the Department remains considerable.

The Department maintains a busy outpatient clinic for patients with a wide range of common skin problems, and an inpatient ward for diagnosis and treatment of more serious, widespread and occasionally, life-threatening dermatologic diseases.

The Department also maintains diagnostic laboratories for the identification of fungi and parasites, and a facility for identifying immunologic reactants in the skin using immunofluorescent techniques.

New special clinics were established recently in the Department of Dermatology: Pediatric Dermatology, Contact Dermatitis, Computerized Pigmented Lesions Follow-up, MOHS Surgery Unit. Patients with various hair problems are also treated. For Alopecia Areata there is a unique treatment which is available in Israel exclusively at Hadassah.

The Dermato-Oncology clinic supplies various services for skin cancers, for diagnosis and treatment.
