The Hadassah Cyclotron Unit is a radiopharmaceutical center which functions within the Hadassah R&D Division in collaboration with the Department of Nuclear Medicine. Medical imaging has emerged as a potent method for diagnosing disease states and for monitoring treatments. Thus, the main objective of the Cyclotron Unit is to synthesize and produce new radio-labeled molecules for the diagnosis and evaluation of various disease states using PET imaging at Hadassah and other major PET centers around Israel. In addition, the Hadassah Cyclotron Unit is responsible for routinely producing known PET imaging tracer molecules such as 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG),11C-Choline and 11C- Raclopride on a daily basis due to their short half-lives.

The Department of Medicine in Ein-Karem acts as a tertiary center for internal medicine and includes 3 inpatient departments, a daycare, an intensive care unit, and 3 department for endocrinology, gastroenterology and nephrology.

The Department of Medicine on Mount Scopus serves the north eastern section of Jerusalem and, in its specialized activities, patients from all parts of the country. The department is known for its efficient patient care reflected by the shortest average period of hospitalization (four to five days) among all the Departments of Medicine in Jerusalem.

The Unit of Metabolic Diseases is part of the Division of Pediatrics. It comprises three services and research laboratories: the Metabolites Laboratory, the Enzymology Laboratory and the Molecular Genetics Laboratory.

The Department of Neonatology provides care and treatment for 8,500 newborn infants who are delivered annually in the Hadassah Hospitals at Mount Scopus and Ein Kerem. The care of these babies is divided into three levels of treatment according to the medical requirements of the infant. Level I nursery provides care for normal healthy newborns during the first days of life.

The department of Nephrology acts within the framework of the Department of Medicine.  Its medical activities include diagnosis, treatment and prevention in several areas: chronic and acute kidney diseases, infections of the urinary tract, all types of hypertension, water and electrolytes homeostasis (including oedemas), polyurea (excess ofg urination) and diabetes insipidus.  Diseases relating to calcium and potassium homeostasis, including metabolic bone diseases such as: osteomyelation, hyper-and hypo-parathyroidism.

The skilled and experienced specialists of the department treat all neurological disorders.  The department boasts state of the art equipment necessary for the treatment and diagnosis of the patients.

The department is the only neurosurgery service in Jerusalem, and receives referrals from all over Israel and abroad for special areas of expertise. Over 700 elective and emergency operations are performed each year.  The department has 27 in-patient beds, including a dedicated neurosurgical intensive care unit with 6 beds staffed by specially trained nursing personnel.

The department deals with all medical problems specifically related to women in all stages of life.  Among theses: male and female fertility, follow-up of pregnancies and high risk pregnancies, menopause, birth control, modern gynecological surgery, adolescence problems, etc.

The department of Oncology treats all kinds of malignant tumors, by therapeutic treatments, radiotherapy, preventive treatment and medical follow-up for patients who underwent cancer treatment in the past and for patients apprehensive of the recurrence of their disease.

The Laboratories of the department of Oncology are involved in basic and applied research in the areas of Cancer Research, Radiobiology, Cell Biology, Development of new treatment modalities, Biotechnology and tissue regeneration.

The Dr. Leon, Eugenia and Dr. Boris Pines Department of Ophthalmology provides medical and surgical treatment. It is the national reference center for corneal, refractive, vitreo-retinal and laser surgery. In cooperation with the Israel Foreign Ministry's Division of International Cooperation, the Department has for many years developed and run eye-care programs in developing countries.

Critical Care Medicine in the division of Pediatrics is divided between the two Hadassah campuses:

The main intensive care unit is located at the Ein Kerem campus and an intermediate care unit is inside the pediatric department of the Mount Scopus campus. The EK unit is run by Drs I. Yatsiv, J. Braun & M. Chigrinsky (PCC fellow) and the intermediate care by Dr R. Brooks. All the attending are trained in pediatric CCM. The nursing staffs of the 2 units are separated.

The Department of Pediatrics at Mt. Scopus is the largest General Pediatric Department in Jerusalem. It provides children’s medical services to the greater metropolitan Jerusalem area. It is located at the Northeast part of Jerusalem and provides health care services to the surrounding neighborhoods.

Pediatric surgeons in the Department of Pediatric Surgery, Hadassah University Hospitals perform corrective surgery for congenital anomalies of the abdominal wall, the gastrointestinal tract and intra-abdominal organs and the thorax: this in additional to removal of childhood tumors and other more routine procedures of pediatric surgery.

The department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation provides an inter-disciplinary approach to the treatment of patients suffering from diverse neurological and orthopedic conditions from the time of injury through the inpatient, outpatient, community integration and long-term follow-up periods. Our goal is to help patients, whose function is limited, to achieve independence and to return to the community in the best availble condition with the maximal quality of life.

The department deals with the treatment of congenital malformations, skin tumors, burns, injuries caused by car accidents and avulsion injuries.  In addition it operates a Center for Esthetics, which offers a variety of plastic and esthetic surgery procedures.

The department of Psychiatry specializes in the treatment of combined medical and psychological problems, post traumatic reactions, depressive syndromes in particular, as well as persistent depression.

The department’s doctors deal with diagnosis, surgery and other treatments of the kidneys and urinary tract in children and adults, both men and women, as well as in the male genital diseases problems in sexual functioning. 

The department carries out a variety of vascular operations, such as: endarterectomy of the carotid arteries, repairs of aneurysms of the aorta and the peripheral arteries, by-pass between the aorta and blood vessels of the limbs, by-pass between the aorta and the kidneys’ arteries, by-pass between the aorta and the arteries of the intestines and the liver.

Community dentistry is a specialty in dental medicine which deals with fixing the levels of dental health and morbidity in the community and analyzing the variables related to these distributions.

The department deals with treatment, research and teaching of all fields related to root canals.

The department deals with the range between ambulatory dental surgery and complicated maxillofacial surgery resulting from severe injuries, tumors and congenital or functional disorders.

The Department of Oral Medicine provides teaching and clinical services in all areas of oral medicine. The services provided by the department may be broadly divided into specialized dental services and specialized clinics.  The dental clinics provide dental treatment for medically compromised patients, handicapped patients and all emergency cases. The specialized clinics, some of which are covered by Israeli health funds, provide services in oral mucosal disease, chronic orofacial pain, sensory changes in the face, salivary gland dysfunction

Dentistry for children, or Pediatric Dentistry as known today, has developed from the treatment of children's teeth to a specialty with emphasis in behavior management, systemic diseases and its correlation to dental and oral disease; the focus is in the delivery of preventive care, beginning with the infant and up to late adolescence, including the treatment of handicapped patients in need of special care....
