The Department of Diet and Nutrition is one of the larger and more developed services of its kind in Israel. It is staffed by clinical dietitians, most with academic degrees, five of whom are in the process of completing their Masters degrees.

The activities of this department are in the following prioritized order:

Advice to and Treatment of Hospitalized Patients. The result: 60% of the hospitalized patients receive one of a variety of 20 different standard diets adapted individually for the patient. In addition many patients receive nutritional support through formulas from the Milk Kitchen (which is part of this department, and serves also as a formula Kitchen).

Outpatient clinics are divided according to subspecialties of clinical dietetics.

Teaching medical, nursing and dietetic students, including 8 clinical dietetic interns a year, for five months each.

Development of services outside the hospital: including courses in nutrition for groups of people with different risk factors, lectures and other projects in the dietetic field.

Research and publications: some research projects are aimed at improving quality assurance, and others are conducted in collaboration with various departments. The department published a book in Hebrew for the general public on the principles of nutrition which has been a best seller.

The department uses a team work approach and the dietitians in most of the departments are part of a multi professional team.
