First In Israel – Hadassah Opens a Simulation Center for Computer Guided Surgeries
The center, which was opened recently in Ein Kerem, will enable Hadassah surgeons to test the applicability of new technologies for computer guided surgeries while still in their experimental stages. It will also serve as a training center, as surgeons will practice this new technique, which will turn in the coming years into the leading type of surgeries all over the world.
The new center will be interdisciplinary, and may use all kinds of surgery departments. It is the result of a collaboration among industrial developments, academic research and the clinical experience of surgeons.
Located in the operating rooms complex at Hadassah Ein Kerem as an expression of its centrality and importance at Hadassah, the new center includes special computers, digital infrastructure for communication with imaging centers in the hospitals, and computerized navigation systems. The entire set up was designed by HMO orthopedists.
Computer guided surgeries, have become more and more significant within the world of surgery in resent years. The assistance of computers enables the surgeons to be more accurate, and to conduct more complicated procedures through smaller incisions. This shorten the number of days the patient should stay in the hospital after the operation.
The orthopedic department at Hadassah is a world leader in computer guided surgeries. Three years ago, Hadassah physicians performed the first ever computer guided hip replacement.
