Prof. Neri Laufer , Chairman of the Department of OBGYN, received last night one of the most distinguished civil awards in Israel – The Annual Medal of Distinction presented by the Israeli Association for Medicine & Law. The following is an excerpt from the decision of the selection committee headed by retired supreme judge Daliah Dorner:
"Prof. Laufer focused his clinical and basic research work in the areas of fertility and IVF. He has concentrated his efforts in broadening "window of opportunity for women". At the same time he is involved with community life and initiated the "Health and Age" program, a project which promotes women's health in the community. Prof. Laufer has been working tirelessly to bring modern medicine and health care to women peripheral communities. He established multi-discipline clinics for women with special needs such as midlife & golden age women, adolescent girls, women who are HIV carriers, center for women who suffer from domestic abuse etc.
He was among the first Israeli physicians to treat fertility issues, and established the IVF unit at Hadassah.
Prof. Laufer believes that health issues can be promoted by encouragement, increase of awareness, creating conditions for healthy way of life, community support network and preventive medicine.
Many women recommended Prof. Laufer to receive this award as a physician, a human being, humble, direct, people's person and broad-minded person."
