A class on Hebrew poetry for teenagers hospitalized in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry led to a unique photography exhibit on display at the Jerusalem Theater.
Over a three-year period, Ronit Gadon, a teacher in the school of the Department of Pediatrics, conducted a class for these young people on the poetry of Nathan Zach, Leah Goldberg, Hanoch Levin and other Israeli and Jewish writers. The poems helped the teenagers get in touch with their emotions – and understand how to express them.
After the class, the teenagers took pictures in the hospital's campus. Their spontaneous photography often expresses their inner world. Their photos were subsequently exhibited in the lobby of the Jerusalem Theater.
"Their pictures expose the viewer to the fragile and delicate world they inhabit. With great sensitivity, the teenagers reveal their world to the viewer through the lens of their cameras", Ronit Gadon said.
The Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Hadassah-Ein Kerem treats children and adolescents from the ages of 9 to 18, who suffer from emotional, mental and other psychiatric disorders. The teenagers are hospitalized for a period of a few weeks or a few months. The department includes a staff of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists and teachers.
