Multi-casualties Drill of Hadassah Med Students Was a Success

28/07/2010

A very successful annual drill, which simulated multi-casualties terrorist attach, ended the trauma course for 6th year students at Hadassah. The drill was initiated and administered by Prof. Avi Rivkind, Head of the Department of General Surgery and Trauma Unit at Hadassah Ein-Kerem University Hospital, with the collaboration of Israeli Police, IDF Home Front Command, Zakka Organization, MDA, the fire department and the United  Hatzalah of Israel.

The drill started at 10:00 at the parking lot of the Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem, and simulated an attack in which a group of doctors were invited to watch a soccer game in the stadium. At the end of the game there was a big blast which resulted in virtual injured people. The students who played doctors began taking care of the "wounded", while calling in the various first responding authorities to the location. The "wounded" were taken for medical care at Hadassah Ein Kerem, where two tents were placed and simulated the Trauma and ER. Other student managed that site, providing initial treatment and sending the "wounded" to virtual imaging tests, OR, and hospitalization.
