Sa'ad El-Kikh from the village of Tsurif near Hebron palm an accident at work 18 months ago and his hand was cut almost entirely. Dr. Carole Pidhorz who saved his hand and reattached the palm. Four months later he started a long process of rehabilitation with the occupational therapists at Hadassah. El-Khikh (45), married and a father of 4 children, has been coming to Ein-Kerem twice a week with the purpose of retaining full functioning of his hand. He never gave up his love for painting, and a few days after his surgery began painting again using a special tool that was affixed to his hand at Hadassah.
The latest drawings he made are displayed these days at Hadassah, in the area where we usually display art work by HMO employees. Hands are a dominant motive in El-Khikh's work. "I feel as if my hands are tied if I cannot paint", he explains.
