Prof. Oded Abramski, head of the department of Neurology was elected as a member of the American Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Science. This is one of the most prestigious institutions in world medicine, and the election process is very long and complicated.
The president of the Institute of Medicine said in a press release that "Members are elected through a highly selective process that recognizes people who have made major contributions to the advancement of the medical sciences, health care and public health. Election is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of medicine and health."
There are 1,416 members in the Institute, and only 76 of them are non Americans.
Prof. Abramski is the 3rd non American Neurologist to be elected to this prestigious institution. He is also one of only 4 Israelis who were ever elected. One of the other 3 is also a Hadassah doctor - Prof. Shmuel Penchas, who was elected several years ago.
This is indeed a great honor for Prof. Abramski and for Hadassah.
